In addition to being a country inn, The Craftsbury Inn is also a working
Fiber Farm. We raise llamas, sheep, goats, alpaca, and rabbits for their fiber. From
this fiber Kathy spins yarn, which is used in its natural colors or hand dyed.
The yarn is then used to make all manner of hand knit products. In addition we
import the wool of rare sheep breeds and make hand crafted knitting needles and
other knitting items.
Our Fiber Flock
animals are mostly named after characters in the Harry Potter books. Here
is Professor Dumbledore, our icelandic ram. While he is a tough boss of the
sheep and goats, he still likes to have his chin scratched.
Joe
is one of our two llamas. The llamas are there to protect the sheep and goats
from predators. They may look docile, but woe be the coyote that messes with one
of Joe's sheep. As an added advantage, we also get fiber from our llamas.
You may notice the coats on Harry Potter and Ron
Weasly. These are not to
keep them warm, but to help protect their fleece from dirt and vegetable matter.
Here are a few snapshots of the rest of the flock.
